A response to the tumblr post “Brony Hate”

Hello one and all, I have decided to sit my ass down and type out a long and well-thought out response to someone here on tumblr who responded to a quote about this irritating plague of teenagers and young adult males known as “bronies”.

For those of you fortunate enough to not know, I request that you close this post and not read a word further. The rock you’re living under is one I’d consider well worth living under, and I’d much rather be living there myself rather than having to tell you the horror of some of these horrible fans of the show. A “brony”, as most of the internet, including themselves, call them, is a person who is a fan of the show “My Little Pony”.

Now, I’ll stop myself here and say that I have absolutely no problem with the show itself. I’ve actually sat down and watched an episode, and it’s not some kind of abomination to mankind. To put it rather bluntly, it’s nothing more than a children’s show that’s revamped the concept of “My Little Pony” in order to sell more toys (or maybe because the writers have a genuine interest.) Those reasons do not matter me and I couldn’t care less about them.

In this regard, my main complaint is the fanbase. Now, once again, I’ll stop myself and go ahead and say that I do not hate anyone who likes the show. I can’t think of many people I can honestly say I detest as is anyway. The thing that gets to me is the fact that some of these “bronies” take this shit way too seriously. I can understand liking the show, but to take it to some of the extremes some of these fans have is beyond my spectrum of understanding. Sure, liking the show is okay, buying merchandise of the show is… another, but still with in a reasonable boundary, but… to sexualize what is nothing more than an attempt to reboot a franchise and sell toys is an absolutely ridiculous notion.

If you’re wondering where I get this… incomprehensible thought of people actually doing something like that, it’s mostly derived from 4chan’s /co/. I won’t give you the details, but I’ll just tell you to go on and watch “Pony thread simulator”. All three versions are on youtube and they’re all by a user under the username PIFTSdotexe. Whether or not you believe these posts are fake or real is your own business, but it seems so odd that you can congregate such a large conglomeration of similar posts on a board that quite a few people go to. I choose to believe that it’s half and half, and well… the half in of itself is unsettling, to say the least.

Now, onto this horrible blog post. It’s what you’re here for after all. For those of you who want the whole thing to see for yourself, the link is here

SHUT UP.

You are just as bad as the people who think it’s wrong or weird for girls to like other girls or boys to like other boys. This is exactly what the LGBT movement is about.

This is… by far, the absolute worst comparison I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Are you seriously going to sit here and tell me that it’s a fair to compare the struggle that homosexuals go through in the real world is really equal of that of teenagers making fun of other teenagers? Normally, I don’t really like to be insulting, but this is the most moronic shit I’ve ever read in my entire life. This is nothing like the LGBT at all. That’s a movement to legalize gay marriage and grant the same rights to homosexuals as everyone else. This is nothing more than people getting made fun of for watching a show. That’s like saying getting a wedgie in highs school by a bully is just as oppressive as segregation was. Guess what: It’s not; it’s nothing more than a shitty comparison much like this one.

It doesn’t matter what gender you are, you are allowed to like whatever and whoever the fuck you want. Get your ignorant ass off the internet because all you are doing is imposing the same gender roles on us that we have been trying so hard for YEARS to get rid of.

I can agree with the first statement. Everyone is entitled to what they like, and that’s fine by me. I, honestly, don’t try to parade around telling everyone how much I don’t like the show as much as they do; the only time I do something like that is if the conversation calls for it. However, are you really going to try to tell someone to get off the internet for giving shit to another person about what they enjoy? I’m sorry, but you’re not getting your wish. If everyone got off the internet for giving shit about something, there’d be no one here.

Honestly, I couldn’t care less if guys liked My Little Pony. Guys can like whatever they want at whatever age they want. How do you think fathers spend time with their kids? Are those fathers creepy too?

I couldn’t care less myself unless they feel the need to tell me how much they love it constantly. The “respect people’s opinions” is a two way street. If you want someone to respect that fact that you like something, do not go telling them about how much you like it. You’re just asking for conflict if you do that. And, are you seriously going to compare fathers to young men on the internet? I don’t even have to say anything because I already know that’s an extremely stupid comparison, and anyone can see it for themselves.

You people—news stations, internet blogs, tumbler folk—need to get over yourselves and realize that this is not about creepy.

I find this to be the funniest statement of all. She categorizes everyone collectively as if she’s not a part of the group she’s talking about, which is just too funny for me to take this shit seriously.

If a grown man wants to do things girls like to do, he has every right to do so. And you know what? If a grown man likes to watch cartoons he has every right to. Back off.

Sincerely,

A woman.

Yes, he does. I can agree with this statement and I won’t repeat anything I’ve already said as you’ve clearly seen my point. And signing yourself off as A woman does not make your post seem any more credible than it is, which it’s not very credible at all.

Why do I say this? Why, you seem to only look at it from one side of the spectrum. You seem to only reference those who enjoy the show and nothing else. As much as I wish to say that that’s all the fanbase is, it’s not. There are some truly sick fucks that are a part of the fanbase that deserve the shit they get. You wanna know why they deserve the shit they get? I’ll give you a hint; it has nothing to do with the fact that they enjoy fapping to cartoon horses. It has everything to do with the fact that they like to tell everyone about it. What you do in your alone time is your business and your business alone, unless there is someone who takes an interest.

With that, I conclude this blog post by saying that I will continue to attempt to ignore this pony fad (how ever difficult that may be, considering it’s fucking everywhere I look nowadays.), but I’m not going to sit by and let some guy tell me about how he fornicates himself with animated horses.  Thank you for you time.

I believe the band should change their name to syndrome of a down.

Learning this shit is damn near impossible.

Of course, I do not understand why I am learning this. There’s no one else that can play that lead, there exist no bass players that play metal in my city, and my drummer is simply not that good.
